Scaling Housing Supply in Canada Using Prefab Precast Concrete Systems

Run Time: 1:00 hours
Certificate: Continuing Education: Upon Course Completion viewer receives certificate to qualify for Professional Development Hours (PDH) and/or Continuing Education Units (CEUs)/Continuing Education Credits (CECs)
Host: Karl Truderung: Tower Engineering • Val Sylaj: CPCI
Course Information

Showcasing the main benefits of precast concrete technology, such as faster project completion, lower construction risk, enhanced building performance, sustainable building practices, design flexibility, and better cost predictability. Using real-world case studies, this session will illustrate how precast concrete construction allows for architectural versatility while providing practical, scalable solutions for mid- to high-rise residential projects.

About the Presenter

Karl Truderung is a Professional Engineer with 29 years of experience in the planning, design, and detailing of structures, with a specialization in precast concrete. His significant expertise includes structural engineering for industrial, residential, and commercial buildings, particularly those engineered to resist heavy loads while constrained by limitations on structural element sizes and locations. Karl has collaborated with architects, structural engineers, contractors, and developers on numerous precast concrete projects. He has extensive experience in the design, fabrication, and installation of precast concrete components and other structural systems. Karl is also a long-time member of the CPCI Technical Committee and a CPCI Fellow.
Val Sylaj, Ph.D., is President and the Director of Technical Services at the Canadian Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute-CPCI.

Course Objectives

Showcase the main benefits of precast concrete technology; faster project completion, lower construction risk, enhanced building performance, sustainable building practices, design flexibility, and better cost predictability. Using real-world case studies, this session will illustrate how precast concrete construction allows for architectural versatility while providing practical, scalable solutions for mid-to high-rise residential projects.
Show how precast concrete solutions are reshaping Canada’s residential construction landscape and playing a critical role in addressing the need for affordable housing.
